Citrix Systems

In 1989, developer Ed Iacobucci created Citrix Systems in order to fulfill his dreams of building an operating system with multi-user support. The first Citrix product, MULTIUSER, caught the attention of executives at the Microsoft Corporation, which allowed its Operating System 2 source to be licensed by the new company. Citrix remained relatively obscure, however, until the release of Citrix WinView in 1993. Designed to provide users with remote access to DOS and Windows applications, the program filled a large need within the growing technology world.

The greatest success experienced by Citrix Systems came with the introduction of the Citrix MetaFrame. Considered one of the most revolutionary products of its time, the MetaFrame has since evolved to the Citrix Presentation Server (now named XenApp) to meet the growing needs of corporations around the world. With this evolution has come a wide range of products designed to provide enterprises with superior performance.

The Evolution of Citrix Systems

In 2003, Citrix acquired Experticity, the developer of such Web-hosted portable products as GoToMyPC and GoToMeeting. The following year, the company expanded its horizons to include products such as Citrix Access Gateway & Citrix Netscaler in the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Virtual Private Network (VPN) markets. Throughout its product development, Citrix Systems has remained a partner of Microsoft, which is reflected in the range of upcoming products designed to link into the Active Directory Domain Security Model.
